Pariwartan Tuition Project Overview

Community Background

We started our Pariwartan (meaning Restoration) Tuition in 2006 and in 2010 we moved to our current location. Our project ‘Pariwartan Educational Center’ is located in a struggling neighborhood on the outskirts of Delhi, often described as a shanty town. Most residents are uneducated day laborers earning an average of 10,000 rupees (120 USD) per month. Many families are affected by alcoholism, with around 20% of our students having lost a parent due to alcohol-related issues or inadequate healthcare.

Pariwartan Educational Center

The Pariwartan Educational Center focuses on educating 80 male students. Many NGOs primarily support female education since education for girls attracts funds more easily. We have rented a place in the middle of the neighborhood. Here we offer free tuition, but if a student is absent more than three times in a month, the family must pay 500 rupees for re-admission fees. This policy ensures families take education seriously.

Curriculum and Classes

Our center provides education from 4th to 12th grade, with a maximum of 12 students per class. Classes are conducted primarily in English to enhance language skills, and students take exams in their government schools to progress to higher grades and gain college admission. While students attend our tuitions in the morning, they go to government schools in the afternoon.

Christian Values and Community Impact

Every day at Pariwartan starts with Christian songs, a Bible story, and prayer, embedding values like honesty, hard work, and respect throughout the day. Our reputation in the community is strong, and we support students’ families with medical and nutritional needs. The community appreciates our faith-based approach, and we are specially known to for our inclusion by treating children and families with different backgrounds with the same respect.

Extracurricular Activities

We organize trips to embassies, hotels, police stations and other work places to inspire students and broaden their understanding of career opportunities. These visits aim to prevent students from leaving school for short-term jobs, encouraging them to dream big and set goals for their futures.

Teacher and Student Success Stories

Our teaching staff consists of five dedicated Indian teachers, including one former student who returned to make a difference. Their receive salaries which allows them to improve their living conditions and leave the slum areas. This financial stability reflects our commitment to their professional and personal growth. The impact of our program is evident in our former students: one has become a teacher at our center, another is training to be an accountant, and a third is working as a technical expert while pursuing a degree in computer engineering. One student, once a shoe shine boy, now works at a Shopping Mall and has been able to support his family significantly. Additionally, some former students are training as local guides in a new business venture, and many have continued their education at college, a step made possible by the foundation they received at Pariwartan. Parents have shared how their children, who previously struggled with regular school attendance and behavior, have shown remarkable improvement after joining our center.

Future Prospects

In 2019 we started our second location just outside Delhi and we hope to open more educational centers in the future. We also have a Scholarship Fund to assist students after they complete their schooling. Additionally, Peter is working on establishing a company with some of his former students, providing a pathway to future employment for our graduates.
